WIC in Texas: nutrition help for moms and young kids
How Texas WIC works, who qualifies, and how to apply for nutrition benefits for pregnant women, infants, and children under 5.
WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) provides healthy food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and health-care referrals for pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children under age 5. Texas WIC is run by Texas Health and Human Services.
Who qualifies
- Pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women; infants; and children under 5
- Household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level — and families already on SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF are automatically income-eligible
- You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to receive WIC, and using WIC does not affect immigration applications
